It is a wonderful look and I think it could definitely be pulled off, especially if one didn't get one of the overly tall and ostentatious ones!

And you're welcome for the comment - I'm touched by your response too. And if there's ever any chance of me coming to Canada, I'll definitely be in touch! xMiss Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06952933650748631441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1189514062264938733.post-3043715960764151892013-04-13T19:52:26.352+01:002013-04-13T19:52:26.352+01:00I'm glad that I managed to entice you in turn,...I'm glad that I managed to entice you in turn, after my being enticed! There was some explanation in the exhibition about women riders being called Amazons in the Victorian period - though I can't remember the proper detail now, and I'm not having any luck finding any more explanation on the internet... Which is a shame, because it certainly intrigued me!Miss Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06952933650748631441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1189514062264938733.post-46905411015818067872013-04-09T19:39:07.364+01:002013-04-09T19:39:07.364+01:00The Amazon has always been one of my favourite of ...The Amazon has always been one of my favourite of Manet's works. There is simply something about an elegant woman in a top hat that I adore with all my might (and all the more so if it's part of an equestrian ensemble, as is the case in this painting). One of these days I get especially daring and buy a vintage (or vintage appropriate) one and try the look out at long last myself.

♥ Jessica

*PS* Thank you deeply for your immensely sweet, touching comment on my US day trip post, honey. That really is one of the loveliest things anyone has ever said to me in a blog comment. It would be a joy and an honour to receive a hug, souvenir and visit from you anytime. ♥ Witchcrafted Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02992822472797191121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1189514062264938733.post-87896004082549082322013-04-09T13:51:58.344+01:002013-04-09T13:51:58.344+01:00God on you for being enticed - and the friend for ...God on you for being enticed - and the friend for enticing. Your immersion in artistic endeavours is delightful. Refreshing! I have noticed before that the well known paintings of a particular artist are not necessarily ones that I like best if I see an exhibition. You've tweaked my interest in Manet with your description of your visit and your choices of paintings. He was mentioned elsewhere recently. I like your imaginings of the androgynous rider. Interesting that the painting is called "The Amazon". I immediately thought of the usual reference to a large, muscular, manly woman - Amazon woman. So maybe that fits with your analysis. I mean her keeping up with the lads, androgyny - not muscles etc. Susan Janethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06096174755215969268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1189514062264938733.post-63540246716807404652013-04-08T19:29:38.719+01:002013-04-08T19:29:38.719+01:00Absolutely!
