In three days...

My thesis is due in three days...

Once it's handed in, I'm actually, believe it or not, going to keep reading about bishops' palaces, the topic of my thesis.  Incredibly, I'm still finding them interesting and want to know more and more.  So, I'm going to return to books I've strategically dipped into and take time to enjoy them cover to cover.

But, this time, it might be in the bath or curled up in bed, instead of with paper and pen or computer at hand for note-taking.  That way I can fully appreciate the wonderful early twentieth-century prose, such as this dramatic snippet:

"... in 1640 the Long Parliament fixed its fascinating gaze on the unfortunate bishop and so paralyzed him with fears of imprisonment and confiscation that he withered up and died with little or no sickness."

They just don't write 'em like they used to, do they?

In four days...

My thesis is due in four days.

Once it's handed in, I might pop down to the Shoreditch Vintage Fair to see if I can find something to wear to the Future Cinema Bugsy Malone event.

I've never actually been to this particular vintage fair.  Has anyone else?  Is it any good?

In five days...

My thesis is due in five days.

Once it's handed in, I'm going to think about what to pack for my Bank Holiday weekend in Normandy.

Hopefully my trip will involve a visit to Mont Saint Michel... (Image source)

In six days...

My thesis is due in six days.

Once it's handed in, I'm going to track down and watch the movie, We'll Meet Again.  Love this song, love this clip, love her outfit.

In seven days...

As I work super hard on my thesis, I keep daydreaming about things I'm going to do after the 27th.  So in my wee coffee breaks, because it really only takes a few moments and it will help keep me sane, I've decided I'm going to do a daily countdown post of something I'm looking forward to, post-deadline.  So here it begins.

My thesis is due in seven days.

Once it's handed in, I'm going to take a bubble bath.

Gene on Skates

I don't think I really need to say anything to justify posting this video.  Gene Kelly tap dances on roller skates.  It's amazing.  Just watch it and marvel.

And now, dear readers, I'm going into lock down. Only two weeks from tomorrow until my thesis is due.  Wish me luck!

Happy Easter

I've got my new-to-me Easter dress on today!  I'm sure you're all familiar with Easter bonnets?  Well, that tradition is actually a remnant of a centuries old tradition of having a whole new outfit for Easter.  If you couldn't afford that, it might just be a new hat, or even a spruced up old one.  The idea behind it is the same as much of the Easter symbolism we are familiar with (eggs, bunnies, flowers, etc), all representing new life and re-birth.

Dress and clutch: Beyond Retro
Cardigan: Uniqlo
Shoes: Jones Bootmaker

Last year I got myself an Easter dress and I thought I'd do the same again this year, as I find it a lovely concept.  I've not bought anything new for ages either, so it does actually feel quite special.  I bought the dress weeks ago and put it aside to wait for Easter, along with the chocolate eggs and hot cross buns for Good Friday.

I would usually go for a completely colourful dress for Easter but I thought this one was so cute and the tulips were in keeping with the spring and re-birth theme.  It's pretty special too, as these flowers on the bodice aren't just any flowers, these are appliqued flowers!

Appliqued tulips with embroidered stems!  Super-zoomed on the computer as I forgot to
take a close-up when I was outside in the quasi-okay light.  Apologies for the fuzziness.

Real life tulips

Someone found a nice bit of food!  I saw this little chap while passing through
Postman's Park on the way home from church.

Happy Easter, everyone!  Hope you have a lovely day even if your weather, like ours here in London, isn't exactly spring-like.

Christ is risen!

Chap Olympiad 2012 - The Countdown Begins

Swooning at the 2011 Olympiad

Yes, tickets for THE best day out in the London calendar have now gone on sale. Or, more correctly, the best TWO days, as the Chap Olympiad is running over a whole weekend this time - Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July.

I've already rounded up a wee gang and purchased tickets. Rather weakly, we're just going for the Saturday rather than two days but that just means there'll be no need to preserve our energies and we can have a one concentrated, decadent, fabulous day with Sunday left over to recover. Although this time, I will try not to send my camera swimming in Pimms...

So if you're in London or nearby and you'll be there on the Saturday, come say hello if you see me!
