Graduation!

Gil Elvgren 1958 (Image source)

I graduated on Friday! With a distinction! But I must confess I didn't look quite like the above picture... I didn't even get a gown and mortar board, would you believe it? (My university doesn't subscribe to such things, apparently.) And I didn't manage to get any blog-worthy pictures because I was too busy celebrating with my classmates. But I thought I would share my happy news, nevertheless.

Since I found out that I passed, about two weeks ago, I've just been sleeping a whole lot on weekends and going to work, which doesn't make for very interesting blog posts. I will no doubt be back on form soon though. And, in fact, I'm going up to Carlisle this week for work, which is an adventure for me as I've never been to that part of the world. So, if nothing else, I will aim to get some pretty pictures of the town and countryside whilst I'm there to share here. And if anyone knows Carlisle and can recommend a good pub for me and my workmate to kick back at in the evenings, let me know...

    1. The picture is Gil Elvgren - THE pin-up artist. He was so prolific, he has a woman of almost every sort, always with their dresses flying up and stockings showing. So I tend to just Google "Gil Elvgren graduation" or whatever I'm looking for and almost always have success in finding something to correlate!

    1. Unfortunately, I can't say Carlisle was the most inspiring place I've visited, and I was too short on time and too exhausted to get many pictures of the city after doing all I had to do for work. But I do have some photos from the site I was at out in the countryside, which I will share some time soon x

  8. Bravo! I'm glad that the markers appreciated your enthusiasm for your subject and your thoughtful and detailed execution of it all. Shame about the lack of gown and mortar board (where does that word come from?) but I know you looked great and shone from within. Pity about Carlisle. Exhaustion can be crippling on the vision too. Or maybe it's a dour city. Hey! I love your new blog header! Who did the drawing? You?

    1. I have a feeling it wasn't just tiredness that put Carlisle in a bad light! Although the cathedral and precinct were good. And I'm pleased you like my new header - yes, I drew it! I cheated and repeated some of the pages because I didn't realise how it would look on the screen when I drew it. I hope to go back and replace the repeated buildings and girls!

  9. Wow! I'm extra impressed now that you did the drawing is ALL your work. Your architectural care comes out in the building seen through the window. Great job on the shoes too - for some reason I really grabbed me. I look forward to whatever new additions you come up with on the flying sheets :)
