A Decade a Day to the Jubilee

Some of my colleagues and I are doing a "decade a day" countdown to the Diamond Jubilee this week, marking each decade of Her Majesty's reign by dressing in an appropriate outfit. We've been doing a little photo shoot each day (which we've decided to also turn into a development of female emancipation).

As is my usual fashion, I'm sparing innocent people the embarrassment of appearing on my blog with the aid of some crafty cropping, but I thought I'd share my outfits with you...

Yesterday was 1950s. I kind of regret not going more "all out" with petticoats and red lipstick and such, but I was a bit shy about wearing such trappings to work!

1950s female office assistant's duties - making tea and dusting the books.

Today was the 1960s. I listened to the Kinks as I got dressed and tried to channel Jean Shrimpton...

We can kind of have a proper, independent career now,  if we're happy
being advertising models. The men still decide who passes though...

Tomorrow, we enter the 1970s...

If you fancy joining in the fun, it's not too late! Dress up tomorrow and leave me a link to your photos! Or email me your pics and let me know if you're happy for me to post them in my next post!

  1. Love this! What a brilliant idea, wish I'd thought of it :) I will try to dig out something 70's for tomorrow and let you know if I manage it!

By the way, I've given you the 'One Lovely Blog Awarrd' over on mine as a very big and well deserved thank you. I've loved reading your posts and very much look forward to continuing so in future, I always know I'll find something interesting of yours! :)

    Thanks again

    1. Oh, thank you so much! I'm not sure if I'll be able to officially accept it as I've not been reading enough new blogs to have any to nominate (terrible blogger etiquette, I know...) but it makes me really happy to hear how much you enjoy reading my blog, especially as I love yours too and missed reading it terribly in your absence! x

  2. What a fantastic idea - I work from home usually, so I'd only have the mister to do this with, but maybe I should brooch the idea with him! :D You look beautiful in both outfits, my dear. I rarely venture into the 60s with my look, but am constantly impressed with how great they appear on others (like you in this eye-catchingly great dress).

Thank you very much for you wonderfully sweet comment on my vintage outfit today, I totally appreciate it!

    1. You don't necessarily need colleagues to play this game (although it would be fun to get the mister on board!). It's been a really interesting experience for me. One of my workmates who hasn't been there that long commented on the 1960s day that "the 60s is obviously your thing - you look totally in your element" which surprised me, because I don't generally go in for the 60s due to my curvier figure. To be honest, I think I just held back with the 50s and then went more to town for the 60s!

  3. What fun! Such a clever idea too. I'm glad you're making the most of it with photo shoots too. Maybe you can stick some up around the office. I laughed about the first photo when I read that it's a duster you're holding. I could only see the handle part and so thought you had a cane out! You've done Jean really well. Caught the eyes & other make-up well or something. And the perfect dress! I do love your jacket and skirt though. 50s is to love.

    1. We've considered putting them up around the office, or putting them in the weekly newsletter everyone gets! Maybe... I'm utterly flattered to have you say I did Jean well. My colleague was impressed by my 60s hair and make-up. It's a definite way to take an outfit firmly into a different decade.

  4. I love this idea, and both you outfits are fabulous! Funnily enough I nearly came to work today in my floaty 70's maxi skirt, but changed my mind last minute, as I was not sure the sandals or my feet would hold up to all the walking I have to do to get to work! what a shame I would have loved to have taken part! xx

    1. Oh, I wish you'd worn your maxi skirt! I'm wishing now that I'd promoted the fact I was doing this before it started, as I'm sure a few bloggers would have got on board, with a bit of warning!

    1. Thank you so much! The 50s is my favourite too - so chic and elegant and ladylike. But I still regret I decided not to wear red lipstick into the office as that would have really made it!

  6. I love the red skirt and kerchief, and the 60's look is adorable, too. The curled bangs are very "the Shrimp". Excited about your 70's and 80's entries, what a fun idea. Happy Jubilee, indeed!

    1. Thanks so much. I usually embrace my naturally curly hair, but there was something fun about having that 60s, Shrimp-like straight hair with the slight flick to the ends and bangs. My 70s and 80s are now up for you to (hopefully) enjoy!
